Staff-level engineering leader who builds platforms, and the teams and standards behind them, that take real cost out of engineering work. Grew an internal HPC platform from a side project to a production system serving 1,500+ engineers across four global regions, returning $12M+ annually in reclaimed time. Lead through influence: the architecture I authored is now the company-standard pattern other IT teams reuse, cutting their delivery time from five months to under three weeks. I measure success by the engineers in front of and behind the platform, the users it serves and the team that maintains it. U.S. Army veteran.
Work Experience
General Motors
Staff Software Engineer (Lead), HPC Innovation
2019 – Present
- Built and scaled a platform org’s flagship product, the HPC Toolkit, a Slack/Teams-native control plane for high-performance compute, from a personal side project to a production system serving 1,500+ CAE engineers across four global regions, processing ~4M simulations/year and returning $12M+ annually in reclaimed engineering time.
- Established the company-wide architectural standard for conversational platforms: the reusable Azure Bot Service pattern I authored cut new bot delivery from four months to two weeks and is now independently reused by multiple IT teams, organizational leverage well beyond my own team.
- Lead the next-generation AI orchestration initiative, integrating graph-backed reasoning (Neo4j) and a multi-agent orchestration layer over HPC workflows, on a roadmap to $35M+/year in value. Set technical direction across teams and ran a four-vendor graph-database evaluation to anchor the decision.
- Drove cross-team platform convergence by publishing a single Kubernetes-to-OpenShift deployment standard (Kustomize base + overlays) and coaching 6+ application teams through migration, replacing brittle one-off pipelines and reducing portfolio-wide tech debt.
- Set delivery standards and quality gates adopted across the portfolio: consolidated 72 Jenkins jobs into 4 version-controlled pipelines, led the Jenkins Enterprise to Jenkins OSS migration for containerized builds, and introduced automated Fortify scanning for C/C++.
- Improved platform throughput and reliability: 70%+ faster CI builds via Kubernetes persistent-volume caching for Maven artifacts; 4x Artifactory capacity by driving the cross-org quota increase that was blocking build and deployment throughput.
- Developed engineers and raised the bar around me: mentored interns and early-career engineers (e.g., shipping a Python Sonar API reporting tool), stood up an internal Slack community for graph/AI experimentation, and treated documentation and reusable patterns as part of shipping.
- Owned high-stakes release execution, enabling 12+ major production releases annually in a vehicle-design software environment with complex distributed dependencies.
Software Engineer, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE)
2016 – 2019
- Prevented hundreds of failed HPC jobs by re-architecting a Java CLI for HPC job submission, delivered ahead of schedule.
- Cut 3K lines of Java and remediated security vulnerabilities in one month against a six-month plan, while extending a Classic ASP/IIS web app during an infrastructure migration without breaking compliance.
- Saved 5+ hours of runtime per job for Maxwell electromagnetic applications and resolved hung jobs by partnering with vendors on integration-code upgrades.
Software Engineer, Customer Care & Aftersales / Manufacturing IT
2014 – 2016
- Cut $200K+ in annual cost by replacing external contractors and building an IBM DataStage ETL framework in-house; consolidated 12 disparate databases during a DB2 to Oracle migration.
- Led UI development (AngularJS, Spring MVC) for a workflow app used across 100+ global assembly-plant floors.
